Introduction to Education
Introduction to Education was a wonderful start to my college experience in the field of education in which I was able to meet peers with similar passions and interests and well as gain real world field experience! During my semester of Introduction to Education I was introduced for the first time to world renowned author and activist, Jonathan Kozol; I was even given the opportunity to listen to him speak live. I completed a project on his book “Letters to a Young Teacher” in which I presented a chapter by creating questions around Bloom’s Taxonomy. In this class I learned a variety of concepts such as the history of education, families and communities and school, and the social context of school. I was able to express this knowledge during class discussions and other artifacts which are linked on this portfolio.

My Philosophy of Education is a compilation of academic knowledge and strategies I can use in the future as a teacher from my learning thus far. When I become an educator, I plan to use these strategies to become an effective teacher. This artifact demonstrates my insight as a first semester education student, although I am aware my philosophy will be changing as I grow and experience more. Through this piece of writing, I became aware that teaching is a wonderful, yet challenging, profession in which I will be learning every day.

For my honors project in Introduction to Education, a partner and I read and studied a chapter in Jonathan Kozol's award winning book, "Letters to a Young Teacher". We lead a discussion in front of our peers composed around questions we developed with Bloom's Taxonomy. I was able to become more comfortable in front of peers. I will take my experience from this project with me throughout my career in education.

To the left is the my reflection of my time service learning at Rancho Solano Private School. I learned how to communicate with teachers and administrators as well as deal with real life issues that arise in the classroom.
