Field Experience
What better way to learn if teaching is right for me than to actually be involved with students in their classroom from a teacher’s perspective? Through my field experience I have been able to network with teachers, practice lesson planning, and learn how to deal with real life problems that may arise in the classroom. I have been able to work hands on in the classroom which has helped me to decide what will be right for me as a future educator.

Fall 2013
San Tan Elementary School
Grade 3
Hours: 21
Multicultural Education is something I feel very strongly about and my placement at San Tan Elementary helped me to learn firsthand how to make students of all cultural backgrounds feel welcome and celebrated. I was able to work with a variety of students who come from different places and learn differently. I learned the most from working one on one with an English language learning student from Korea. Her patience and determination was infectious. I also benefited from working with a remedial reading group who has learning disabilities. All of the students in this third grade class worked hard, challenged themselves, and inspired me to be the professional educator I have always wanted to be. My mentor teacher showed me how to discretely implement multicultural education and many techniques to use in the classroom appreciate all students such as posting photographs of the children with their families, and having a student of the week. The knowledge gained from this experience will aid me in having an open heart, an open mind, and the resources to make sure all of my students exceed and feel safe and happy at school regardless of their differences.

Spring 2011
Humphrey Elementary School
Grade 1
Hours: 20.5
Never underestimate the power of a first grader! I learned many ideas and tips on how to manage a class with young children, such as having procedures and transition times between subjects. I experienced a wonderful first grade class at Humphrey Elementary School, where I was fortunate enough to work hands on with the students. I did most of my learning working with small math groups and trying different teaching strategies such as using a white board and drawing pictures, or using manipulatives. I learned the importance of positivity in the classroom and how much the right attitude can affect the whole mood of a class, especially one with youngsters. I will take the great experiences and helpful lessons that I have learned at Humphrey working with these first graders as I continue striving to become an effective teacher one day.

Fall 2010
Rancho Solano Private School
Grade 2
Hours: 31.5
Listening to the chit chatty voices of 7 and 8 year olds as they line up anxious for recess became a common occurrence in my placement at Rancho Solano Private School in Gilbert. During my time at Rancho Solano, I was exposed to a very unique class of many different personalities, which helped enrich my knowledge about how to cater to different learning styles. I was able to see the classroom from the perspective of a teacher in which I was able to read aloud to the class, grade their assignments, and even give tests and quizzes. Prior to my time at Rancho Solano, I had never been a part of a private school, and this unique opportunity helped me to gain experience at one. I was able to observe and interact with the 2nd graders at each of their specials: art, Spanish, strings, computers, and P.E. I will put the knowledge and experience that I gained from my time at Rancho Solano towards my journey of becoming an elementary school teacher.
